BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN MIDWIFERY, PHD IN CHILD PSYCHOLOGY, CERTIFIED PROFESSIONAL MIDWIFE

My name is Nicole Werner, I am a Certified Professional Midwife and the Director General of the Costalegre Clínica de Maternidad. Originally from the United States, I spent 15 years as a university professor in the field of Child Psychology, where I taught and conducted research on child development and family relationships. However, my desire to support women and families in a more direct, hands-on capacity led me to return to school and pursue a degree in midwifery.

When my parents moved to La Manzanilla in 2019, I came to visit and fell in love with the community. After many discussions with local women about their experiences giving birth, I decided to relocate permanently to La Manzanilla and pursue my goal of providing evidence-based and compassionate midwifery care to women who have few options for where and how to give birth.

Since 2019, I have worked as a midwife in home birth practices and birth centers across Washington, Idaho, Oregon, and Texas. In 2020, after my parents moved to La Manzanilla, I visited the community and quickly fell in love with the area. Conversations with local women about their childbirth experiences highlighted a lack of accessible maternity care, motivating me to permanently relocate to La Manzanilla. Now, as Director General of the Costalegre Clínica de Maternidad, I am dedicated to providing women with limited birthing options access to high-quality, compassionate, and personalized midwifery care.
